Samsung’s Exynos 980 is perhaps the only chipset from the company that has been zealously adopted by several smartphone makers. We already have several phones with Exynos 980 chipset, and many others are expected to join the fray.
Why is Exynos 980 popular? It’s because Samsung could timely introduce a mid-range chipset with an integrated dual-mode 5G modem that OEMs could use to market their first set of Dual Mode 5G phones.
Qualcomm, Mediatek, and Huawei subsequently introduced Snapdragon 765G and Dimensity 1000, and Kirin 820, respectively. The Exynos 980 will be competing against these SoCs.
Snapdragon 765G vs Exynos 980: Which is more powerful?
The arch-rival for Exynos 980 is obviously Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765. The Exynos 980 is manufactured on a slightly lesser power-efficient process but has the advantage of employing the latest Cortex-A77 cores.
Benchmark scores online peg Exynos 980 to be slightly better performing, but as we have iterated time and again, most popular Benchmark tools like AnTuTu do not reflect real-world performance.
The real-world performance from both chipsets should be really close, but yes, the Snapdragon 765G is expected to emerge as the more popular option of the two.
