At Computex 2021, AMD has announced its RX 6000M-line of Navi GPUs for laptops. This includes the Radeon RX 6800M, RX 6700M, and RX 6600M. These are based on 8nm RDNA 2 architecture (ISA) similar to the RX 6000-series desktop GPUs that had launched earlier this year.
With the RDNA 2, AMD claims up to a 1.5x performance jump, up to 43% lower power consumption, and up to 1.77x power-constrained gaming compared to its predecessor. And here’s where RX 6800M based on RDNA 2 stand against the competition —
RTX 3080 vs RX 6800M vs RTX 3070
|Models||AMD Radeon RX 6800M||Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080||Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070|
|Clock speed||2300MHz||1245 – 1750 MHz||1290 – 1620 MHz|
|Throughput (FP32)||11.8 TFLOPS||18.98 TFLOPS||15.97 TFLOPS|
|Memory Bus Width||192-bit||256-bit||256-bit|
|VRAM||12GB GDDR6||16GB GDDR6||8GB GDDR6|
|TGP Range||145W+||80 – 150W+||80 – 125 W|
|Manufacturing Process||TSMC 7nm||Samsung 8nm||Samsung 8nm|
Now, the RX 6800M (Navi 22) is more akin to RX 6700XT (Navi 22). It gets the same 40 CUs and 64 ROPs, but a lower clock speed. Still, that 2.3GHz frequency pushes it ahead of the curve. The graphics memory can be 12GB, 14GB, or even 16GB depending on OEMs.

This time around AMD’s top dog is also nipping at the heels of its competition. It can give the RTX 3070 a run for its money. And speaking of money, it is priced cheaper too. But, Nvidia still has the advantage when it comes to increased support for technologies like Ray Tracing, DLSS, as well as video encoding and decoding. To compete in this regard, AMD is bringing FidelityFX Super Resolution on June 22.
Now, it’s too early to draw any verdict as laptops packing these AMD graphics goodies are yet to land on our hands.
The first laptops to come with the AMD RX 6000M-series GPUs are Asus ROG Strix G15/17 Advantage Edition and HP Omen 16.

These laptops also meet the guidelines set under AMD’s Advantage Design Framework, which includes high-end Zen-3 Ryzen CPU, RDNA-2 Radeon RX mobile GPU, built-in and ready-to-run AMD’s Smart Access Memory and SmartShift, 144Hz IPS LCD/OLED with FreeSync Premium, NVMe storage drives, and 10+ hours of video playback.
