Now you can watch Ted Lasso on Android TV or any of the Apple TV content on Google’s TV operating system. Apple has made its entertainment service available on Android TV running 8.0 Oreo or higher that’s not an operator-tier device. So, you can download the Apple TV app from the Google Play Store on your Android TV device/streaming box/stick.

The Apple TV availability was first announced by Nvidia for its streaming media device called Shield TV. And it was believed to be an exclusive thing. But, only later, discovered to be accessible via other devices running on Android TV OS. Also speaking of exclusivity, earlier Apple TV was limited to Sony Bravia TVs and Chromecast with Google TV.

This isn’t the first app to cross borders. We have Apple Music on the Android store. But, that and now Apple TV making inroads into the Android side of things is a sign of Apple opening a crack in its so-called “walled garden” little by little. And the answer to the why of it is simple – customer acquisition and more revenue.

As for the Android TV users reading this, what this means is another OTT platform with a decent selection of content.
